Strain Comments:

• Esther Lederberg discovered lambda in the metB strain W6. This strain is auxotrophic and it is assumed to be from an early lyophil of the Lederberg wild-type (WG1).
• urλ-- is an older version of lambda than that found in most lab cultures of wild-type K-12 and derivatives. The strain was given to Richard Calendar as a lyophil in 1991 from Edouard Kellenberger.
• ΔrfbB51-- deletes rfbB and the upstream region.
