ThyR-(deoB,deoC)Strain Comments: - from a cross between Edgar's ``CR34 Hfr'' strain and Bertani's E. coli C strain C416.
- We have not yet been able to trace the derivation of this strain completely. It can be used to transfer φX-sensitivity by transduction with xyl+, although it does not grow φX very well.
- thyA0-- Strains with this marker must have their medium supplemented with thymine (25ug/ml). This is true even for rich medium such as LB. Otherwise thymine starvation can lead to thymineless death.
- φXs-- : φX sensitivity is derived from E. coli C
- glnV0(AS) was formerly called supE-
- AS = amber(UAG) suppressor
- deoB,deoC = Old name thyR = deoB,deoC
- strR = streptomycin resist.
