• Cysteine-secreting mutant. There is no proof that cys-54 is present in the same form as it is in parental strain JM240.
• proC47-- is very stable and may be a deletion.
• cys-54-- is probably in cysB.
• cysE157(fbR)-- Mutation results in feedback insensitivity and L-cysteine excretion.
• cysE157(fbR) was formerly called cysE*
• glnV42(AS) was formerly called supE42
• AS = amber(UAG) suppressor
• fbR = feedback resistant
